XU Mengdong

Ph.D, composer and theorist. He is a second-level professor, distinguished expert, and doctoral supervisor at the Shanghai Conservatoryof Music. Recognized as a leading talent in Shanghai, he receives special government funding. Xu is the chief expert of the major arproiect funded by the National Social Science Fund. He serves as the vice president of the Chinese Society for Compotifion and Composition Theory, and a senior researcher at the He luting Advanced Research institute. He is also a guest or special professor at professionamusic institutions in cities such as Shenyang and Wuhan. He previously held positions as the execufive deputy dean of the ShanghalConservatory of Music and the vice chairman of the Shanghai Musicians Association.
Xu has written and published nearly a million words in academic papers related to composiion and composition theory. He has composeddozens of various orchestral, chamber music, and musical drama pieces. His work has been recognized with major awards, including thefirst prize in the 14th National Music Composition Award and the 4th innovaion Award from the Ministry of Culture. He has also receivedthe second prize (two times) for National Excellent Teaching Achievements, the Qu Yongxi Music Education Award from the Minisry ofCulture, and the highest awardllents in Shanghai.
He has served as a judge for numerous significant domestic and international competitions, including the National Music CompositiorAward from the Ministry of Culture, as well as for theNational Social Science Fund, National Art Fund, and the Ministry of Education'sHumanities and Social Science Fundwon dozens of important composition competitions
at home and abroad, and they serve as composiion and theory teachers at professional music and art institutions in central ChingShanghai, Zhejiang, and other places.
Several of his works have been selected for the "Centennial Collection of Chinese Music", the "Reposiory of Chinese ContemporarComposers", the "Symphony Performance of China's Reform and Opening Up 40th Anniversary", the "Symphony Performance of the70th Anriversary of the Establishment of New China", the "People's Music Gold Record-Original Essence of China's New Era SymphonyWorks", as well as important contemporary music festivals internationally.
